Well, my family has just spent a month away on vacation and now a week home where I think I have finally recovered. So for the next couple of weeks I will need to play catch up here. So to begin with, here are two more of my layouts and a template to share:

I was browsing around some online sites and I came across this cool freebie by Tracie Stroud:

You can click on the image to go to her blog where you can download it. However it is a post from the beginning of May so you may want to go quick because I don’t know how long she will have it available.
Here is a layout I made with just the addon and a great template from Allison Pennington for a challenge at Polka Dot Plum:

But of course I couldn’t resist checking out the full kit that this is an addon for! It is super adorable, called A Friend Like you, and created by Tracie Stroud Designs and Vesi Design and available at MScraps.

So with all those cool new pieces, here is my final layout:

The layout is about my little daughter. She is my third, after two boys, so I scrapped about how I wonder if she will be like me or what she will like as she gets older. It was inspired by my great joy in dressing her in jeans one day since jeans are my favorite pants to wear!
Now, I can’t wait to figure out a couple of more pages to scrap with this kit since there are so many other papers and elements in it that I didn’t get to use on this layout. :)

I read a great article about lines in our pictures yesterday that I want to share with you.
http://digital-photography-school.com/working-the-lines-in-your-photography
Read through this main page and then follow the links to the three types of lines at the bottom.
Horizontal lines: The author says that horizontal lines create the feeling of stability and rest. I had trouble coming up with a photo of mine for this. Hopefully that doesn’t mean that my life lacks stability and rest right?! lol I did however find this stunning stock image:

Forgive the fact that it is about crucifixions, but the horizontal lines really do add to the ominousness and help to build up to the statues don’t they? The picture even shows how they are helped by the breaking up a bit of the horizontal lines with the cracks in the steps and the wall edges on the side.
Vertical Lines: These can show power and growth. I found this cool picture of my son playing basketball that has a lot of verticals in it:

There are the tall basketball hoop and my son reaching up tall, all of that is accentuated by the verticals in the wooden fence rail behind them. Just like the article says, the effect is amplified by having the picture vertical also so that it looks like he is reaching for the stars to make this shot! Also, take note that the vertical lines are running parallel with the edges of the photograph.
Diagonal Lines: The author, Darren Rowse says that diagonals can draw your eye through a picture. I thought immediately of the image in our previous post with my son walking by the fence.

The diagonal lines in the fence bring the eye right up and into the photo, and I think help add motion to the picture as if you can see my son walking along this path. The article talked about how the most pleasing lines go from left to right, up through the image so I tried turning the picture around. Which do you like better? I’ve been staring at them so long I can’t tell.

Here is my next week layout. I know that there is one picture missing but it is on my sister-in-law’s camera and I didn’t want to wait to share the template with you so I post it now as is and will add the picture later. :)

I just came across this the other day and thought someone might be interested. A cool site – Scrappity-Do-Dah – is having a CT contest. A Creative Team (CT) is a group of people who work to promote a site and its products. They get to work with the kits and elements from the site for free in exchange for creating awesome layouts, posting them around at different sites, and talking up all the great designers at the site. Scrappity-Do-Dah has decided that instead of just having a CT call, they will have a contest. Those who sign up will work through different challenges and such and at the end the “winners” will be the new Scrappity-Do-Dah creative team. Wouldn’t that be fun?! If you are interested though, head over there fast because sign-ups end tomorrow! Here is a link to the sign up:
